Sami was momentarily blinded at the bright light that had erupted from Terry's wand. Hoping that she could replicate her result, (though a lot less painfully,) she flicked her wand and said the enchantment. "Lumos," she whispered but nothing came out of it. She growled, wanting to get it right the next time.

"Lumos." This time there was a small spark but it soon disapated into nothing. So, the witcfh decided to take the pictural approach.

Sami closed her eyes, imagining a bright flame, lighting her through the dark. "Lumos," she spoke up and, to her joy, her wand spewed a bright light, illumintaing the area around her. Sami smirked, thankful that she had gotten it right.

"Nox," she waved her wand again. The flame had been extinguished by a big, ball of liquid. Nope, still as bright as before.

The girl decided to take a poets imagery, but this time with nothing. It was the Void; pitch dark and ominescent, everything was nothing. She said the encantation on last time and the light put out.

She practiced the spell a few more times, sometimes doing it successfully, others not. Sami was content with where she had gotten.

How many times was this? Probably her fourth. Elise didn't know, but it seemed that today was the day to be arriving late to all her classes. Lame. Lame. Lame! She saw a figure up ahead and followed where ever he was going; he might be going to the same class as well.

After stepping into the classroom, Elise watched what the others were doing before dropping her bag by the door and taking out her wand from her robes.

She looked at her wand, and wondered how in the world was she going to cast the spell. Her eyes roamed around, catching that the other students were flicking it a certain way.

After much information gathering, if one could call it that, Elise tried it.

"Lumos." A weak flick of her wand had a blinking light before it went out.

Two more times she tried the spell, and each one stronger than the last. "Lumos!"

On her seventh and last try, "Lumos!"

The light stayed firm and steady. Elise nodded in satisfaction before trying to put it out. "Nox."

Elise managed to turn off her light on the third try. It seemed that turning it off was easier than turning it off. Or maybe that was just her. Nevertheless, Elise practiced both spells until she was sufficient with each.

Gwen nodded and flicked her wand, "Lumos" a small spark....then nothing.
"Lumos!" she said thinking of a candle or a lantern or anything with light.
It glowed brightly but then died again. She tried again, it sputtered on and off until finally deciding for off. She glared at the dying light.
"Lumos!!" She commanded. This time it worked.
A bit too well.
She couldn´t even look at it so she muttered, "Nox." and the light died again.

"Professor I am so so sorry to come in late like this. You probably think it's rude, but I have a note." Silver reached into her bag and pulled out a note that she had gotten from her last Professor explaining why she was late.

She went to the side of the room and dropped her bag after taking out her wand. There were no desks and all the kids around her were shouting "Lumos!" so she did the same. The first time she utterd the spell a spark flickered at the end of her wand. Then she remembered that Lumos was a light spell. She pictured a candle burning bright in front of her and said the spell again. This time it worked.

Silver smiled and said, "Nox!" She was so proud of herself that it was ridiculous.

Jenn now took her turn trying the spell. With a flick of her wrist, she spoke, "Lumos." Nothing. Absolutely nothing. So she tried a second and third time, the third in more success, though the light died after a second. Determined to succeed, she spoke and flicked her wrist, "Lumos!"

She smiled at the success of her spell. Now, 'Nox' was to get rid of the light. "Nox," the light flickered for a moment, so she tried again, "Nox," and the light vanished completely.

Hester pulled out her wand. She was uncertain how to even begin to create magic. She experimented, giving it a little wave.

"Lumos," she said. Nothing happened.

The fear struck her again. Perhaps she wasn't magical after all?

"Lumos!" she said louder, waving her wand harder. Then she realised that the others were just flicking the wand, not waving it. She took a deep breath to calm herself down and then said the spell again, this time with a flick of her wrist. A tiny glow appeared at the tip of her wand, and then disappeared. She grinned happily.

"Lumos," she said. The glow was bigger. This time it didn't go out.

"Nox," said Hester, just like one of the other girls just had, and her light went out. She grinned, proud of herself.

Watching the other students for a bit, Alli smiled to herself. She knew that spells were all nearly impossible to get right on the first try, but she found it was fun to watch even the smarty-pants Ravenclaws struggle with the spell. Best get on with it... she decided. There was no point in wasting her time, since she had to be here anyway.

She took out her wand and held it out in front of her. "Lumos," she said, feeling almost bored. Making light, how dull.

Not surprisingly, nothing happened. She sighed. Putting in actual effort wasn't something she'd planned on doing that day. "Lumos," she tried again, this time concentrating on making light appear from her wand. She thought she saw the slightest flicker, but she couldn't be sure. She was surrounded by too many other people trying the spell.

She turned around and faced away from everyone else, so she could see if she was actually successful or not. "Lumos," she said with determination.

Light, as she'd expected. She felt proud of herself for getting it in only a few tries, although she knew that some other spells wouldn't come as easily. "Nox," she said.

The light remained. She didn't really want the light to go away, it was pretty, and she had created it. She wanted it to stay. Nevertheless, it couldn't. "Nox," she said again, more firmly. The light extinguished, and she gave each one another go, making sure that she could perform them adequately enough to play the professor's little game. She then returned to her original position, facing the rest of the room, and waited for the professor to speak again.

Seeing as they seemed to have both spells down, Christopher nodded and clapped his hands together to get the class’ attention. “Since you have it down. What we’re going to do is play Marco Polo. I’m sure you’ve all played some form of it.”

Smiling at his students he pulled out his own wand. Looking around he debated on who’d make the first person to be ‘It’. Locking eyes with the Slytherin who guessed his game he pointed at her. “Ms. Vladimir. You shall be it. Everyone,” he continued looking at his class. “Light your wands!”

With that, Christopher used a temporary darkness spell and watched as his kids had fun.

((OOC: When Leighton calls marco, you all should use lumos to let her know your location. Call polo then use nox and move. Leighton if you want to tag someone ask in an ooc.))

Alli didn't know much about Marco Polo, but she did know that she wasn't supposed to do anything using her wand until the Vladimir girl said something. She also knew that being "it" was undesirable.

She took the opportunity to move further away from Leighton, so that she would not be in tagging range whenever the girl decided to start the game.

Hester wondered what marco polo was. Aside from what the teacher had said, of course. She was a little confused, but she was sure she would get the hang of it when it got going. It sounded a little like tag. She held her wand ready. Now all she had to do was wait for the Vladimir girl to start playing. She was on the other side of the classroom to her at the moment so she hoped that she could watch for a tiny bit before joining in properly.

Liz was flustered. She had practicing in the back of the classroom the whole time--nobody had noticed her--she still didn't quite have the spell, and they were all moving on. In a violent attempt, she yelled "LUMOS!" but her wand sputtered and died. Concerned that the others thought insane, she sighed and decided to wing it.

Vanessa stood and listened intently the professor as he spoke, and stared intently at her own wand. This was it. She was going to preform a real spell, today, and she had hardly an idea how to go about doing it.
She looked around herself at the other students that had managed the spell correctly, and tried to memorize the exact way they flicked their wrist and pronounced the spell. Lumos.
Raising her wand arm experimentally she braced herself and breathed in a deep, calming breath. She noticed the girl next to her succeed, and was suddenly emboldened. She could do it, too.
Flicking her wrist just how the girl did, Vanessa said in a voice as loud as she could make it, "Lumos!" A green light flickered on at the end of her wand, and the feeling she had then was indescribable. She couldn't believe it. She just couldn't believe she'd gotten it on her first try. Sure, she had seen other people do it enough times for it to feel like she'd done it twelve times, but it was still ridiculous. She looked around herself nervously, and then back down at her wand. Now, she just had to go about turning it off. What was the spell?
"N-nox!"
The light at the end of her wand flickered, but did not die out. Breathing in and out, she said to herself, "Don't worry about it, Vanessa. You can d-do this."
Whisper-yelling the spell over-and-over again, it wasn't until quite a few minutes later that she succeeded dimming the light only slightly. Despite how depressing it was, she couldn't help noting how ironic her situation was. She could start the spell; the hardest part, but she couldn't end it. If she wasn't so frustrated by her slow progress, she would've laughed.
She had to master the spell.
