Charlotte tried to take down notes, but KNEW that they'd be useless. She doesn't use them. Ever. So she just took down some things that she might forget. She was glad that the Hat placed her in Hufflepuff. It probably didn't fit her too well (like being friendly and all that. But, it might be better than being in Slytherin. Some people seem to hold this bad image of Slytherins, thinking that they think that they're too good for their own good. She was especially glad, though, that she wasn't in Racenclaw. Terry already didn't seem to like her.

Leighton was late for yet another class. It was just a bit annoying waking around in a new school that she has never been to before. Yet, other students faced the same problem and they managed to be there on time.
Once Leighton found her way to the History of Magic room, she gave a polite nod to the teacher before taking a seat. She was surprised to find that other students weren't there as well, in fact, the class seemed bare. So, Leigh took a seat by herself and pulled out parchment and quills.
Leighton looked up at the teacher and waited to figure out what was going one.

Slipping into the classroom, Peter took a seat in the back hoping not to be noticed. He listened and then hearing what was being said, tuned her out. Sighing he pulled out his History of Magic book and propping it open, ducked his head behind it. Laying his head on his arm, he began to read his book ignoring everything else.

He didn't understand why the first lesson would be something anyone would know if they just read the stupid book. Or asked a professor or anyone older. They could have told them the same exact thing. Turning a page in his book, Peter thought his time could be better spent doing his homework for his other classes.

Ellen was a little late for this class aswell. She mentally kicked herself she really would need to learn her way aroung hogwarts. She slipped in and took a seat at the back. She wasn't trying to avoid the professor and pretend she had been here since the start. She ust felt that the professor probably wouldn't want her to interupt her lesson more than she already had.

She sat silently waiting for the professor to countinue with the lesson.

Rowan walked into the History of Magic classroom without so much as attempted sneakiness. She stood calmly in the doorway for a moment, glancing over the class with stormy gray eyes as she looked for an empty seat. She spotted one on the other side of the room and made a mental note of it before looking to the Professor, who sat on her desk. She put on an apologetic expression, and she seemed sincere as she apologized. "My apologies, Professor," she said as she walked across the classroom to the empty seat. She took her messenger bag off her shoulders as she continued. "It won't happen again," she said sincerely, taking her seat in one of the farther back rows. She didn't care if she was drawing everyone's attention. It wasn't like she had done anything wrong. She really did have a valid excuse for being late, but she knew adults hated hearing excuses, whether the reasons were justified or not.

Rowan thought it was smarter to let the teacher know when you come in instead of trying to sneak in and have the teacher later call you out. See, adults always seemed to use the crazy notion that they 'have eyes in the backs of their heads' and most kids brushed the notion aside with rolls of their eyes. Rowan was one of those people, too, but not when it came to Professors. Sometimes she didn't doubt that some teachers knew some kind of charm that alerted them to when late arrivals came in. It was intimidating sometimes. But, this way the professor wouldn't call her out and embarrass her like most teachers did to students who were late.

Rowan grabbed her History textbook and pulled it out of her bag. She had heard from the doorway the teacher telling them about the Founders of Hogwarts. She put the book in front of her on the desk and then took out some parchment and one of her gold quills, going through the notions like she was actually going to take notes, but she was only putting on the act for the teacher's benefit. It's not that she was a bad student, but- come on. Practically everyone knew about the four founders. She had already written up notes on the topic of the four founders. Rowan wondered if that's what the entire lesson would be about as she laid her chin her arm which was lying on the desk, and she had her quill to the parchment, looking ready to write notes.

Sophie looked around the class and was actually quite glad they didn't give her any questions, you never know what they'd come up with. She nodded at all the latecomers rather than nagging them, after all, lessons weren't obligatory.

"Hello, all. It's allright, Miss. First time everything's forgiven. Now, to move on. There was one Founder who differed from the others. He was keen on teaching children who were of all magical families. Why, I can only persume. He probably thought they were more skillfull that way, or knew more of magical ways. If he thought that, he was, of course, wrong. But let's not judge dear ol' Salazar, he had his reasons. I'm sure all of you are aware of what he had built in the castle. A chamber. Can anyone give me it's name and what he hid in there? And, why. You can talk amongst yourself, of course, different opinions are always fun to listen to."

Leighton had heard story about the chamber Salazar had built. Leigh's father had worked on that case while he lived in England. Leighton raised her hand calmly. "I believe the chamber Salazar built was called the Chamber of Secrets. My father told me about it and how only a descendant of Salazar himself could open it. I didn't know he hid something in it though." Leigh stated in her even tone. She was highly embarrassed that she wans't aware that Salazar hid something in the chamber. Yet, Leighton guessed that was because she was American.

Hester had been silent so far, unsure of the answers. She had taken notes, though. Lots of notes. All of a sudden, she realised that she knew the answer to the next question! She remembered reading one of her books, and having to then look it up in another book because she hadn't understood what it was. Excitedly she put up her hand.

"He kept a basalisk in it, Professor," she said, luckily managing to keep breathing at the same time. She felt pleased that she had answered a question. She had been worried that she wouldn't know anything. "I think'" she said. "I think it's some sort of snake..."

Rowan looked at the girl who had answered. Then she put up her own hand, now looking to the Professor. She would further explain her classmate's answer. "The basilisk is an enormous serpent, the King of Serpents actually, and the one placed in the Chamber of Secrets could only be controlled by Salazar Slytherin's true heir, Lord Voldemort. He had the snake so it could dispose of the school's impure students, as in those with Muggle heritage. Particularly Muggleborns," she said. Nowadays nobody hissed at the Dark Lord's name. Those days were gone and everyone had been taught not to fear the name, unless one was Muggle-born. Then they probably didn't know about him at all, which Rowan thought was quite sad. "Furthermore, Harry Potter killed the snake in his second year, but it's supposedly still down there," she added, thoughtfully.

Rowan's father had told her everything about his old house, the history, the ancestry, the characteristics. That included the stories about the Chamber of Secret. She was proud to be a Slytherin, despite what other House's thought about hers. She kind of disagreed when the Professor had said that blood purity had no effect on being placed in Slytherin, because it did in fact. Maybe not the main factor, but it was the first test on getting into Slytherin. No Muggleborn had ever been placed into Slytherin, which proved it did have some effect. Rowan had decided not to argue on that, deciding that explaining the snake had been enough to make up for her being late.

Hester looked at the girl who had expanded her answer, grateful, because it had given her a chance to jog her memory.

She put up her hand again.

"It's- It's scared of..." She paused, thinking. "Spiders. It's scared of spiders. And I think it's born from a chicken egg that's hatched beneath a toad, but I'm not sure why."

She was really glad that she had read that book now.

Terry looked at the Gryffindor girl strangely before raising her hand, knowing a tidbit that hadn't been added yet. "Ve entrance is in ve second floor girls bathroom, but no one knows vhere exactly. Also, ve basilisk Petrified students vho vere Muggleborn, because, of course, everyone knows vat Salazar hated them." she added thoughtfully.
Thank goodness for autobiographies.

Jude sat in the back of the room and listened in silence to the mindless girls who were discussing basilisks (which was starting to get off topic) and the Chamber of Secrets. He couldn't help but wonder how they knew all of these things. After all, they were only 11, they could have only read so many books before coming to school, and the Chamber had never been opened, to the best of his knowledge, and his knowledge was as good as any kid who grew up in a magical household.

The Chamber was said to be located somewhere in the school and could only be opened by the Heir of Slytherin, if such a person even existed anymore. Jude doubted they did.

(OoC: You guys should probably read the rules of the site again. It says that this is AU (alternate universe), which means that none of that happened, so right now you're just spouting nonsense.)

Sophie listened to the girls talking and flinched a bit when one girl mentioned You Know Who's name. She knew most people weren't afraid to say his name out loud anymore, but she was raised to fear him. Even though he was long dead when she was born, her Father never stopped fearing him and raised his children that way, as well. Plus, she knew what horrors he did while he was alive and how many great people were dead because of him.

"Thank you, ladies. All you said was right, except the bit about spiders. Spiders feared it, not the other way round. The Basilisk was afraid of roosters, however. Their crowing is fatal to it. And we should probably also mention that it was banned in Medieval Times, so no stupid ideas like breeding one, are we clear on that?" she added. One never knows when a student might come up with something idiotic like that.
"Noone mentioned it's way of killing. It has poisonous fangs and, the most interesting way of killing, in my opinion, is by looking at you. It really is a horrible beast, that's why it's clasified as an XXXXX creature. You should learn more about those clasifications in your Care of Magical Creatures class, I believe." she told them, hoping Mrs. Celare will tell them that.

"Now, to sum up, the class will soon be over. The finders were Godric Gryffindor, Salazar Slytherin, Helga Hufflepuff and Rowena Ravenclaw. You know what they looked for in their students. If you have any questions about any of the finders or about Basilisk or just about anything, you're welcome to visit me in my office.
Let's move on to the Galleons. Everyone who gave their answers, get 2 Galleons for each answer. So that gives 2 Galleons to Misses Sparrow, Henderson, Wilde and Willow. 4 Galleons to Misses Criss, Vladimir, Alderman and Drake. Thank you all for showing up, I hope you learned something new.
Homework. No, you won't escape it. I want you to write me a 100 word essay on your favourite person from your House. They don't have to be famous or anything, but you have to include why you chose them. Owl me your essays in four days, please. If I don't get it untill then, you won't recieve your Galleons and also, the homework affects your grade.
Have a good day!"
Sophie smiled at them, hoping they will finish the essays in time.
