Herbo Lesson 1

Terry shifted her bag's strap as she tried to remember which greenhouse the lesson was going to be held in. Greenhouse One, she finally remembered after a few seconds of very hard thinking. Trotting towards it, she opened the door and slid inside, offering a shy smile to the Professor before sitting down, setting her bag on the floor, making sure Iggy was secure in her pocket before settling down to wait for the other students to arrive.

Alli entered Greenhouse One and slumped into a seat towards the back. If she remembered correctly, the woman sitting behind the desk was the interrupting girl from the ice cream shop's mother. What a pain. Hopefully she wasn't in this class, though that was doubtful.

Leaning back, Alli closed her eyes and waited for something interesting to happen, or for someone she knew to show up.

Silver skipped down to the Herbology Greenhouse. She was really excited to start the first lesson. She had never done well in school and really hoped that lessons at Hogwarts would be better or at least easier.

When she entered the small building Professor Cooper was there and she was nothing like Silver expected. For one thing she was pregnant and for another she was actually pretty. Silver thought that all teachers were ugly and evil, but she was completely wrong about that! A couple students were there as well and Silver was glad she wasn't the first one there.

Silver decided to take a seat in the front after getting over the surprise of having an attractive teacher. She took out her book and began flipping through it for the first time.

Jude couldn't think of anything he'd rather do less than attend Herbology class. Glorified gardening, that's what Herbology was, and if there was one thing Jude hated, it was gardening.

Entering the greenhouse, Jude evaluated the people already there. All girls. Gross.

He saw a girl that he recognized and went to sit next to her. She was a fellow Slytherin. Alli, he thought her name was. Nudging her with his elbow as he sat, he looked straight ahead at the fat woman who was apparently their teacher. Sorry, not fat, pregnant. Not that it mattered. She was still the size of a whale.

There were already a handful of students in the greenhouse when Brianna arrived, leaving her wondering where would be the best place to sit. She didn't want to appear overeager by sitting in the front, but at the same time, she didn't want to come off as a slacker by sitting in the back. She decided to split the difference and sat somewhere in the middle before taking out her brand new Herbology book and flipping through the pages, curious about what they would be learning that day.

Kyra entered the Greenhouse wondering where to sit. She decided that it would probably be best to sit near the front, where she saw a very pregnant woman. She wouldn't say anything, just in case, you know, she wasn't...
She adjusted the strap of her canvas bag and sat on a stool. She opened her her book, skimming through it, just in case something interesting came up.

Adreis Conners walked into Greenhouse 1, moving her hair out of her eyes. she bit her lip and looked around for anyone she knew. Dree wasn't a huge fan of new people, and would much rather sit by someone she knew...

Dree spotted Kiki, (who had been sorted into Hufflepuff). She quickly walked over to where her friend was and sat down next to her. "Hey Kiki" she grinned.

She saw the girl had her book out and mentaly kicked herself for forgetting hers. Liam was supposed to give her his old Runes and Herbo books (or maybe he was supposed to buy her new ones..), but she had forgotten to ask. Luckily she sent Nobody off last night with a note.

"Alright everyone, good morning and welcome to Herbology. Now, first thing's first..."

She waved her wand and levitated all the children's desks slightly off the ground and rearranged them so everyone was in a circle. "Much better. Before we begin our lesson, I think it would be best for us to introduce ourselves. I'll begin.

"My name is Erika Cooper and I am not only the Herbology Professor, but also the Head of Ravenclaw, and before any of you ask, yes, I am married to the Headmaster.

"I'd like for us to go around the circle now. Please give your name, house, and something interesting about yourself. This will not only help you get to know each other, but it will also help me to learn all of your names."

She nodded to the first student, indicating that they could speak.

Unfortunately for her, Kyra was the one Professor Cooper nodded at. She was very outgoing around people her age, but with adults, it was a different story.

"Uh, my, uh, name is Kyra Henderson. I'm in Hufflepuff and I uh, don't care for Quidditch. My sister M-Michelle m-made me a bracelet. It's really pretty and I always wear it. And I, uh, should probably shut up now."

She sank down and blushed furiously. She closed her eyes and prayed that Professor Cooper would move on to the next student.

Essi rushed in late, kicking herself for oversleeping. She pulled out her books and a quill and sat quietly, waiting for her turn to speak.

Emily quickly entred the greenhouse behind a ravenclaw girl. She quickly took a seat and brought out her books, quill, ink and parchment. She sat quitely and waited for her own turn to speak.

Gwen walked in hurriedly and smiled but the frowned noticing that slytherin girl. "Sorry Professor Cooper. Won´t happen again." she said sitting down next to her friend Essi and pulling out her things.

Terry glanced at the late girls but shrugged. It was her turn. "My name is Terry Berbatov, Ravenclaw, and I'm from Bulgaria." she said, smiling slightly. "I also really love dragons." she straightened slightly on her stool, waiting for the next person to speak as she took out her Herbology book.

Alyssa sat down at the end of a table. After quickly taking out her books, she looked around. Sure, plants had never been her thing, but she should give it a shot, right? When others looked at her, she realized an introduction was happening.

"I'm Alyssa Lastwick, call me Lyss. I don't care for annoying people, and I love anything chocolate."

Jude rolled his eyes as it quickly became his turn to speak. Introductions, what a waste of time. "My name is Jude Parker and I'm only taking this class because my mother made me."

It was the truth, pure and simple, and surely that was all the professor could ask for.

Adreis looked up and realized it was her turn, she blushed slightly as she started. "Um.. I-I'm Adreis Conners and I.." she paused for a second trying to think of something else to say. "I don't like cats" she blurted out, then blushed and looked at her feet, waiting for the next person to take the attention away from her.

Alli snorted at the girl who didn't like cats. It was amusing to watch as she blushed. She would never understand why some people got so nervous when speaking in public. Alli wasn't even sure this counted as public.

She waited a moment, then decided to put the girl out of her misery. "My name is Allison Walker, I'm in Slytherin, and I only drink Hot Chocolate during the summer time."

Silver wasn't very shy so she jumped right into her introduction. "Well, I'm Silvana Harper, but don't call me by Silvana because I won't respond. Call me Silver or Harper if you're mad at me, but please don't get mad at me. I'm in Gryffindor. I am a dancer and I have a fat orange cat named Toby. So I guess that means Adreis doesn't like me very much." Silver teased the girl that had gone before her in a lighthearted way. she hoiped that her fellow first year wouldn't be offended.

Bri sat quietly as a series of students introduced themselves. She felt awkward, like an outsider. She thought she might have met some of them before, but there were just so many people at the bookstore that day that she'd gotten overwhelmed and she couldn't remember a thing.

When it was her turn, she began uneasily. "Um, I'm Brianna Carter, and I like... books," she finished lamely.

Charlotte, running late since her alarm clock decided not to work, ran into the class at this moment. She didn't want to look like a fool, but oh, she did. She blushed, and found a seat next to a blond girl with wavy hair. She had a bag with her books in it around her shoulders and put it at her feet.

Brianna immediately set to work on the assignment. She didn't want to come off as lazy by waiting for other people to get their supplies out. She'd done enough reading in the textbook to be able to answer this question.

Our book defines Herbology as "the study of magical and mundane plants and fungi". This is largely accurate, although it doesn't necessarily include the full scope. This "study" consists of learning not only the physical properties of a plant so that we may recognize it if we see it in the wild, but also practical uses for the plant.

One example of this is the Mandrake. The Mandrake, according to the book, looks essentially like a muddy brown baby. Additionally, its root is used to make the Mandrake Restorative Drought, which can return anyone who has been Petrified to their original state.

Bri looked over her answer to make sure she'd spelled everything correctly, then took her parchment up to Professor Cooper, before returning to her seat to wait for everyone else to finish.

Terry looked at her parchment. Herbology....she read the book, she knew what it was....Herb is a plant. 'Ology' is the study of something.

Herbology is the study of magical plants that can be used in a potion or everyday life. It scopes out the physical attributes, the use of the plant in question, and also the effects it could have on certain potions.
Smiling proudly at her work, Terry signed her name with a flourish and spell checked it (which was fruitless because she was using a Spell Check spell on the paper) before taking it up to Professor Cooper and sitting back down, proud of her work.

Dree blushed even more at Silver's introducion and was happy to atar writing. She pulled out some parchment and started to write.
