It was time to learn a new spell and Aurora decided she wanted to learn the counter of Alohamora. It was only fitting, right? She knew one half of the equation so why not learn the other half? She was sure this would come in handy throughout her life so she was definitely excited to try it out for the first time. Once again, Orion agreed to help Aurora out. Since Aurora and Orion did have pretty equal magic, Aurora was sure this was going to be a piece of cake.
However, this time was different. Aurora’s parents asked to watch and not wanting to disappoint them, she agreed. Before she began she decided to tell them that she might not succeed immediately. Aurora didn’t want her parents to be disappointed in her especially since they always spoke so highly about her to all of their friends. This time, Aurora and Orion decided to practice the spell outside of their parents’ bedroom.
Their parents’ were in the hallway with them and they decided they wouldn’t go to their room until Aurora locked it and then unlocked it. This was their chance to see their little girl shine and they were extremely excited for it. When Orion was younger, his parents seemed to favor him but now that Aurora was in school she was favored more. Orion didn’t mind. He wasn’t a big fan of attention anyway.
Orion shut the door and told Aurora to start. She was extremely nervous since she had to impress her parents and definitely didn’t want to disappoint them. “Mom, dad, remember, my first few times I won’t get it.” In response her parents nodded. With their children they were laid back, with everyone else, not so much.
She held her wand out and called out the incantation. “Colloportus.” Nothing happened and Aurora side. Although she knew it wasn’t going to work, it was still a little disappointing. She hoped she’d succeed within three times like she did with Alohamora. She remembered that last time she had to stand confidently and that’s what she intended on doing.
Her next try, she stood up straight and tall eyeing the door. With her wand out again, she pointed to the door. “Colloportus.” Once again, nothing. This was all so frustrated and Aurora wanted to succeed so badly. “Okay, one more try,” She told her parents and brother. This time, she held her wand steady, eyeing the door. “Colloportus!” She said louder than before. This time the door open and Aurora grinned. “Yes!” She said out loud.
Aurora’s parents looked at her happily with a smile on their faces. “Great job, Aurora.” They told her. Now they were able to run off and gloat to their friends about how amazing their children were and how advanced they were when it came to magic. Aurora liked that he parents bragged but sometimes they bragged a little too much and it drove Aurora crazy. Now she had to wait and see how much they would actually brag.
