Aurora asked her brother to help her learn a new spell. At first he was reluctant, but soon agreed. Although he was two years older than Aurora, their magic levels were relatively the same. In some areas, she did better than he did and in some areas he did better than her. Even though Aurora was only twelve, she had the magical capabilities of someone much older.
Aurora and Orion decided to wait until after dinner to practice the spell. Since they were waiting, they were going to have the whole night to practice without any interruptions. Aurora was sure it wouldn't take long since her family was really powerful and she was advanced. She had to keep in mind her brother was older than her though.
After dinner, Orion and Aurora went upstairs and stood outside their bedrooms. "Ok, listen, I'm going to lock my door using Alohamora's counter. When I'm done you can practice the spell until you get it right. Oh, and this is one of my weak points but don't tell mom and dad. This is one of the areas they think I excel in."
It was rare Aurora made fun of Orion, their relationship was different from most siblings so she didn't laugh at him like most people would expect her to. Instead, she nodded to show she was listening and smiled at her brother. It was her way of telling him it was ok to be bad at something. Everyone had their weaknesses.
Moments later, Orion used the spell and locked himself and Aurora out of his room. "The only way he can get back in is if you do the spell correctly." He told her. It was a little bit of pressure on her shoulders but she was determined to do it the correct way. Aurora wasn't the type to give up easily and she always succeeded at whatever she put her mind to.
Feeling confident, as usual, Aurora lifted her wand up and looked right at the door. Even though she knew the spell wasn't going to be effective the first time she still felt really confident. "Alohamora." She said while looking at the door. Nothing happened as expected. Orion stayed silent and Aurora knew just to try again and again until she got it.
This time, she stood up straighter and held her arm out straighter as well. If she wanted to get this done correctly, she needed to have everything the right way including her form. Aurora looked back at her brother for a little reassurance. He smiled at her and nodded. It was great to have a big brother who cared so much. "Alohamora." She called out again. Nothing.
The whole spell learning thing was boring but Aurora really wanted to learn the spell so she was just going to push through the annoyance and keep her confidence level the same. This time, she sighed loudly and adjusted her posture once more. In order to do this correctly, she needed a clear mind. Quickly, she removed all other thoughts, including the thought of annoyance.
"Here we go." She whispered while holding her wand tightly and looking directly at the door blocking out her other surroundings. "Alohamora." She said a little louder than the times before. There were a few small noises Aurora didn't know what they were. She looked at her brother behind her with her eyebrow raised.
Orion shook his head at her and walked to the door. He turned the door knob and then pushed the door open. "Those noises mean you did it correctly. You'll always hear it no matter what door you open. So basically, you're done. Good job little sis." He said to Aurora just before giving her a big hug.
