Kaoru slipped into the first shop with his grandmother. He knew that his mother and father wouldn't approve of anything bought here, because it was a joke shop, a vulgar place, but he was an eleven year old boy and he had some money that was his own, as opposed to what he was expected to buy his school supplies with.
He wandered around the shop, his grandmother following him quietly. He wondered what to buy. He only had twenty galleons allowance to spend.
He spotted a box of sweets, which turned out to be, on closer inspection, a skiving snackbox. It was expensive, though, and it wouldn't last. He frowned. No, he wouldn't buy it.
The headless hats seemed a little immature, in his opinion. And the portable swamp, well, too swampy.
Finally, he spotted something. It was a cage with about ten, fluffy, purple things bouncy around in it. Pygmy puffs, said the label. Fifteen galleons.
"I want one of these," he said to his grandmother in Japanese, earning him a few odd looks from some of the other customers. His grandmother shook her head, but she was smiling, so he knew that he had won.
He took the purple pygmy puff to the counter.
"Just this, please," he said in English to the man behind it. He handed over his fifteen galleons and then left the shop happily cradling his new pet.
