| The door to Bridget's office was shut and locked as usual. Any students seeking to get inside would be met with the doorknob telling them to go away. Anyone trying to force themselves inside would be met with a bite on the hand, or whatever appendage happened to be closest to the doorknob. Beside the door, affixed to the wall, was a folder marked "Runes Homework- Leave Here" and that was where she expected any and all homework to be left there or she would not grade it.
Homework is due before I start the next lesson. Not sure when exactly that will be but you have a few days at least. | |

| Thomas gulped as he went towards the Ancient Runes Professors Office, he hadn't participated much in the last lesson, but he hoped that his homework would make up for some of the marks. He was rather interested in Ancient Runes, and hoped that he wouldn't fail the class for his poor participation in the First Lesson. - Spoiler:
Egyptian Hieroglyphics Egyptian Hieroglyphics were first used, obviously, as it was how the Egyptians would write. It was used for their numeric system, alphabet, and basically any form of written work. Even now the Egyptian Hieroglyphics are often looked at by Muggle Archaeologists, and Muggles were able to discover how to translate these Hieroglyphics after the finding of the Rosetta Stone. Many of these Hieroglyphics are still seen today, for example, the Ankh is still a prominent symbol that is seen today in a lot of symbolisms and architecture. Some believe they were used in order to invoke magic, with inscribing them into objects putting that element into the object. For example, at times Egyptian soliders would at times etch the symbols for good luck or strength into their armour and weapons, and it was believed that it did in fact give people these charms in battle.

| Lavender wandered down the sixth floor corridor, she was sure this was where Professor Bryant's office was. It took a few minutes of walking to find an office door with a box outside saying 'Runes Homework'. Lavender stood in front of it and stared for a second, she then glanced at the door. It looked locked, heavily bolted, she wondered why the professor was so guarded. She shook the thoughts away, it was none of her business, and placed her homework in the box before leaving again. - Spoiler:
Hieroglyphics
Hieroglyphic writing, the earliest known form of Egyptian script, was established in ancient Egypt around 3100-2900 BC. Hieroglyphs create art out of writing and use it to express their ideas. At the beginning, hieroglyphics were mainly used to record the king’s possessions, written in a variety of text on different surface types. However, later on, it became more commonly used for religious purposes such as: inscriptions on stone monuments, temples, administrative records and other records carved on stones. The first forms of hieroglyphs appear on labels and pottery objects. Hieroglyphic inscriptions are arranged on its surface in columns or horizontal lines. There are no punctuation marks or spaces to show the divisions between words. The signs are generally inscribed facing rightward, and are usually read from right to left, or top to bottom (if emblazoned vertically). It could be written on papyrus using ink, painted or carved into stone.
