Hester grew up as a muggle. She was born on Anglesey in Wales but moved to Newcastle in England before she was two. She doesn't have much family who live locally, so she is used to travelling. Her parents are both 'sort of teachers', her dad lecturing at the university and her mum teaching adults. She had always seemed a little different from the other muggle kids.
Matilda Alderman is her cousin.
