Learning in the Library Empty
PostSubject: Learning in the Library   Learning in the Library EmptySat Jan 22, 2011 8:44 am

Thomas looked over the library book once more, he was trying to figure out how one would perform the lumos spell, it seemed pretty handy after all, plus, learning some spells they might not be learning in class would give him an upper hand. He looked at the book again, it describing how one would perform it, the incantation was at least simple, which was good since it had a fairly simple effect. He took out his wand, keeping a firm hold on it, but held it up so he could observe any effects easier. "Lumos." He chanted, only to shrug nonchalantly when it didn't work, with an encouraging glance from his mother, who insisted she be present just for safety. He knew he wasn't going to get it right first time round. He brought his focus to it again. "Lumos." He chanted for a second time, only to become slightly more dis-spirited when it didn't work. He resolved himself though, he needed to learn this spell, if only to be able to have a trick under his sleeve when he needed it, or just for the use of it's spell itself. “Lumos!” He chanted again, and he was fairly certain he sure an extremely faint light emit from his wand for a millisecond, before going back to it's unresponsive state. “At least I'm getting there?” He said quietly to himself, only to see his mum grin and nod. He tried again, and again... This process continued for the next few minutes, but nothing near the same happened, not even a spark of it.

Thomas was about to just give up, before he looked over the book again. Maybe re-reading the theory would help him understand it, plus, he was getting tired from attempting all the magic and he did know that it was no use trying in an annoyed or rattled state. Best conditions to learn a new spell was out of distractions and for the person to be calm. He picked his wand up again, and proceeded to chant the incantation multiple more times. Again, this went on for a few minutes, Thomas forcing himself to keep calm. Even if he didn't learn it today, he could try again when he could. Suddenly, a faint light shone through again, before being quickly extinguished. He smiled slightly, and continued trying more and more, the monetary sparks becoming more and more frequent. Thomas felt like he might actually have a chance at learning the spell, and started to get a little excited. One more spell under his belt, and he'd be able to learn more advanced spells after. “Lumos” He chanted for the umpteenth time, only this time there light seemed to stay around for longer. “Closer and closer...” He murmured to himself, his mum just kept watching approvingly. “Lumos” He chanted again, and there was a brighter flash of light, but it didn't keep hold as long.

He had both sides of the spell now, the tricky part now was to combine them. “Lumos.” He said, growing in confidence now. Once again, this process continued for several minutes, until he finally got it to a respectable degree of balance. The light stayed on the tip of his wand, and it was a fair bit more than an eerie glow through a haze, much closer to a torch light, though not quite. Thomas smiled in accomplishment. “One question, how do I turn the light off on it?” He asked his mum sheepishly. She smiled, and took the wand, muttering another incantation which dispelled it. “Thank you!” He said grinning, putting his wand back in his pocket after it was returned to him. He had done it, he had gotten one extra spell, now there were a million more to go.

You have done well, Thomas. Wizard God approves this story and deems you worthy of spell-casting- thereby granting you use of the Lumos spell. Congratulations.

This thread will be locked and 10 galleons will be added to your account for a job well done.
