Quidditch Try Outs

Here is the place to be if you are interested in trying out for a spot on your house team. All years are accepted (that's right, firsties!) so please fill out the code below:

If you are granted a place on a team, this gives you privileges to mention being on the team, or allows you to practice on the grounds in your posts. You are also allowed to purchase a broom from Quality Quidditch Supplies in Diagon Alley. Concerning actual play of Quidditch, we haven't decided if actual games will be conducted at the moment. If you have any suggestions feel free to contact myself or an admin with your thoughts.

Position Request: Keeper

A short example of how you would use your position on the team in a RPG post (Max. 250 words):

Andy stepped through the large double doors with a grin on his face and a spring in his step. He was granted a place on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team as Keeper, a position that he had always dreamed of having for years and years. He albeit ran to the Quidditch Pitch, his new broomstick swung over his shoulder, ready and eager for the training session. He knew that he'd have to train as much as humanly possible to impress the rest of the Ravenclaws on the team and not to let them down.

Andy waved at James who offered to help him practice by acting as an opposing Chaser. They managed to sneak out a Quaffle from the cupboard in which to practice with. Andy took off into the air, and positioned himself in front of the middle hoop, waiting eagerly for James attack. Andy kept his eye on the Gryffindor and the distance between him and the hoops. James' first attempt at scoring was successful, which made Andy one hundred times more determined. Andy, with a outward stretch, managed to capture the Quaffle before it could go through the first hoop and make James' second attempt successful.

The two fourth years practiced dead into the night, both exhausted as they clambered back to the Castle for dinner.

Position Request: Seeker

A short example of how you would use your position on the team in a RPG post (Max. 250 words): Hester stepped out onto the quidditch pitch. Her heart fluttered anxiously in her chest. The other members of her team also filed out onto the pitch and lifted into the air. Hester followed.

Practise began. Hester hovered above the rest of the team as the chasers practised against each other below her. She watched carefully, her eyes flickering over the pitch as she searched for a glimmer of the golden prize.

There! She had seen something. Hester leaned into her broom, picking up speed in a dive, her small body fitting neatly against the streamlined broomstick.

A bludger flew out of nowhere, and when Hester swerved to avoid being hit, she lost sight of the snitch.

She didn't give up hope and began scanning again, this time keeping an eye out for bludgers as well. A glimmer here- no, it was just sunlight. A glimmer there- someone's glasses.

Finally she spotted it again and darted after it. She stretched out her hand but the snitch was just out of reach. She put on a burst of speed and reached further, the tips of her fingers grazing the outer casing of the ball. Yes! She had it! It struggled in her fingers but she had caught the snitch.

She landed at the end of practise and smiled to herself. She would do better next time. Catch it quicker. Make her team proud.

Lavender kicked off the ground hard, rising into the fresh Quidditch pitch air. It was the first training session of the year and she'd just been appointed Slytherin Keeper, one of her school ambitions. She hovered in front of the goal posts waiting for the rest of the team to assemble. It didn't take them long and soon enough a Quaffle came hurtling at her. With all the strength she could muster she flung herself at it, grabbing it with both hands and pulling it into her chest. However, she hadn't quite anticipated the speed and it winded her. Lavender coughed and spluttered, dropping the Quaffle. There was a yell from somewhere below her, someone asking if she was okay.

"Yeah, I-I'm fine!" With that she straightened up, rubbing her stomach carefully. She wouldn't let that happen again. Next time she should let the Quaffle come to her and not fling herself at it like a blithering idiot. "Again!" She called out, so another Chaser could try again.

Position Request: Chaser

A short example of how you would use your position on the team in a RPG post (Max. 250 words):

James walked out onto the pitch, nervous but excited for his first match. They were versing Hufflepuff, but it was by no means an easy feat. It would be a grueling match.

James grinned at the other two Chasers on his team before taking off into the air, his eyes set on the Quaffle in Professor Hunter's hands. On the sound of the whistle, the players were a blur; James one of them. He quickly grabbed the Quaffle as it fell in the air, and directed his broom towards the Hufflepuff Keeper and Gryffindor goal posts.

As he sped to his goals, his peripheral vision caught the sight of one of the Puff Beaters lining a Bludger his way, and James diverted his path ever so slightly to avoid his head being caved in. In so doing, however, James found himself deep in Hufflepuff defense. Darting in the opposite direction to try and avoid one Chaser James didn't see another Chaser swoop in and take the Quaffle from his grasp. James swore, and spun back, determined not to let the Hufflepuff Chaser score.

Thomas stepped out onto the Quidditch Pitch uncertainly, the match was to be against Gryffindor, and it was fairly obvious from previous matches that this would not be an easy match. Everyone waited in tense silence for a moment, before the whistle was blasted and everyone was off.

Gryffindor had got the Quaffle from the start, which meant they had to play defensive, eventually one of the other Ravenclaw Chasers got control and passed it to Thomas, who caught it with surprising ease before flying speedily towards the goal. He was blocked at one point though, so threw the Quaffle along to one of the other Chasers. That procedure continued a few minutes longer before one of them finally scored. Thomas swerved back slightly, the game had just begun after all.

Jasmine was rather shocked that she was given the place of Beater for the Slytherin team. Not overtly shocked though. She did love the art of whacking iron balls of death at annoying people so to her, this was a little bit of heaven.

She walked out with her team and gripped her Beater bat a little harder than usual. She was nervous about the game, but at least there was no chance she'd get hit with a Bludger. After all, she was the one hitting them at others.

The whistle was blown and Jasmine saw her first opportunity to unseat unnerve a Ravenclaw Chaser. She took a large back swing and pelted the Bludger in his direction. Unlucky for her, the Chaser saw her intentions and swerved out of the way. Jasmine frowned but didn't let it get her down too much. She'd find many more opportunities to cause harm throughout the game.

Leighton sat on her broom, letting the soft breeze push back the tendrils of her hair that wasn't tied up in her ponytail. She watched her team play against the Hufflepuffs with an intent gaze. She was glad that she wasn't in the immediate action. Instead, she hung above the rest of team, looking for a certain golden snitch.

Flying around in slow circles, Leighton cheered for her team whenever they scored. They were really talented and Leighton was proud that she was part of the team. Leighton wasn't used to being part of an actual team. Leighton couldn't decide whether that was a good thing or not.

Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, a flash of gold was visible in the sunlight. Unfortunately, the Hufflepuff seeker saw it too. They both rushed off toward it, neither one of them able to get ahead of the other. Leighton pushed further, but she knew that this wasn't going to be an easy chase.

A short example of how you would use your position on the team in a RPG post (Max. 250 words):

Ethan hadn't been flying for long. In fact, he had spend more time eating his mother's meatloaf than he had in the air. Despite the shortest amount of time the team had probably ever seen, Ethan was made Seeker for the Hufflepuff team. He didn't know exactly how the game worked, in detail, but he was certain of his job. Catch the snitch, and win the game. Simple, right?

Ethan took to the air a tad shaky, his hands gripping the Cleansweep under him for almost dear life as he looked around for the tiny golden prize. Ethan knew that as well as looking for the Snitch, it would pay to also keep a close eye on the other Seeker, and be on the lookout for those nasty Bludgers. He didn't particularly want one to the face any time soon.

Seeing a sparkle near the Ravenclaw middle goal post, Ethan lay flat against his broom and took off towards it, knowing full well that the Ravenclaw Seeker was closing the gap between them. He willed his broom on faster, but the Ravenclaw's broom was of a better quality. Ethan blinked, and the flash was gone. He didn't slow down however. If he could distract the Seeker, than perhaps he'd have a better chance at catching the damn thing.

Kyra stepped onto the Quidditch Pitch, more nervous than she'd ever been in her entire life. Her first game. This was insane. She was insane. There was no way she could do this. She closed her eyes, took deep breaths, and counted to three before mounting her broom and soaring into the air.

The game was moving quickly around her; she turned her head left and right, watching for bludgers to dodge, searching for the Golden Snitch. C'mon Kyra, you can do this, she thought as she gulped and searched. Make Shelly proud...

She caught a glint of gold light. Surely it was the sun... Wait, since when did sunlight move? Kyra set all doubts and fears aside as she zoomed toward the Snitch. She panicked as the Gryffindor Seeker followed her. Her fingertips were just inches away from the golden ball. Centimeters...millimeters... Her eyes shut tight as she reached further. She closed her hand and opened her eyes. She had it. She had it! Kyra grinned widely and sighed in relief. "I hope I made you proud," she whispered. Her grin widened further as her team whooped. This had to be the best day ever.
