.Personal History.
Kaoru grew up in Tokyo with his Japanese pureblood parents. His grandmother, Korikee, lived with them and he grew very close to her. Because he grew up in such a closed environment (in a crowded city) he had to integrate daily with muggles. He had few friends, but he did get very interested in muggle activities, in particular gaming. His family didn't want to send him to the magical school in Japan because they weren't keen on the head teacher, so they moved the family to England, to London, when Kaoru was ten. He already had a good grounding in English because he had had a tutor in Japan, and he became the spokes person for his family whenever they went out. This was supposed to build his confidence, but it made him withdraw even further into himself. When he got his letter, his parents hoped that he would make friends at Hogwarts and become a more well rounded person. He is the sort of person who will do almost anything to achieve what he wants.
