Pierre smiled as he entered his dormitory. He liked it- the yellows, soft creams, it worked so well, and the beds looked so comfortable. Going to his own bed (the one nearest the window, of course!) he sat down and began to shed the stifling, cheap cotton uniform. Rifling through his trunk, he produced his lounge suit and quickly redressed, relishing the feel of Egyptian cotton against his skin before heading down to the common room.

-LATER-

Pierre sat at his desk, looking at a letter from his Mother. Rubbing his eyes, he glanced at his discarded watch. Dinner should be over by now. Mentally preparing himself for the other boys, he reread the letter, not believing what had happened.

His jacket was discarded on his bed, his tie slung loosely around his neck. The letter had obviously been read many times, by both him and Terry during break. He hadn't seen her since...break.

His sore eyes scanned the parchment once more before burying his head in his arms...and screaming as loud as he could, getting out all of his pent up anger, grief...regret.

Sydney was greeted, upon entering his dorm, by a loud yell that he was sure carried all the way throughout the entire castle. He didn't quite understand how it was always him awoken or greeted by yelling people. It was all still so very absurd.
He almost made his presence known to the other boy, but that would admit to having heard him cry. He wouldn't(couldn't) possibly submit the other boy to such humiliation. So with as much stealth as he could muster, Sydney tried to make it to his bed without disturbing the boy.
With any luck, he would be able to hide in his bed unnoticed. Luck, however, was not on his side. He had been so preoccupied in making sure the boy wouldn't look up from his arms, that he had failed to see where he was walking.
So, it was then that he found himself stumbling over bookbag and into the bedpost which collided loudly with his forehead. "Bloody Hell! That hurt!"

Pierre looked up from his arms, to see the boy from the common room. Still shaking, the boy advanced on the boy. Clumsy idiot! "What...What did you hear?" Pierre demanded angrily. The little jerk had heard him! He couldn't believe that the kid had the decency to just walk in like nothing happened, instead of giving him some privacy!

The letter was crunched in his hand, tears having dried quickly, leaving red trails on his face. Pierre glared with what little dignity that still remained, waiting for an answer...

Looking up at the angry boy, Sydney stood up and tried to collect his bearings. He couldn't show that he was slightly frightened by the boy that looked as if he could snap him in two f he wanted.
"Uh. Whatd'ya mean?" he said, trying to seem innocent. He really hadn't heard anything other than a very loud yell, but he doubted saying that would help him in any way, shape, or form.
He edged towards his bed, sending it shifty glances from the corners of his eyes. If he could just get to that bed.
He really hoped the boy wouldn't take a swing. The last thing he needed was getting in trouble for fighting. His mum would have his head on a stake if he did.

Pierre twitched. "You know what I mean. What. Did. you. Hear?" he demanded angrily. He wasn't going to hurt the kid... physically, anyways. Just make sure he hadn't heard him crying. Maybe freak him out a little.

The kid was frightened- the shifty glances, edging to his bed, trying to play innocent. Years of dealing with Terry had him prepared for actual school and the fights that came with it.

All Pierre hoped was that the kid didn't see the letter... or figure out who his family really was...

Sydney forced his temper to be kept in check. There was no way this boy would ruin the rest of his year by making him get in trouble with his mum. That woman would ruin his life if she caught wind that he'd gotten into another fight. The ruining of his life just wasn't a good option.
" I didn't hear anything. I just walked in...Honest"
He had to do some damage control...and fast. The boy looked as if he could pack a really good punch, and punches were also just what he was trying to avoid.
"I was just trying to get to my bed, but your bag...was in the way..."he finished lamely.
Merlin, that sounded stupid even to him.

Pierre backed away, breathing deeply. The kid probably only heard him scream. Relaxing his hands, he didn't notice the letter fall to the round, a wad of crinkly parchment. His shoulders weer still shaking, and it took all the strength he had to quell them.
"...I am sorry about that." he managed. He wasn't used to talking very much outside of class and Terry. Hopefully the other would see that.

Sydney could recognize a recluse when he saw one. This boy wasn't used to speaking to other people, and that worked perfectly to his advantage.
"Nah It's fine. Let's justs sleep on it, and tomorrow everything will be fine. yeah?"
He shouldered his bag and made the short trip to his own bed. He was just so tired. Today, had certainly been a very interesting day...
Changing into his Pyjamas, as if nothing was wrong, Sydney turned to the other boy, "Let's just hope tomorrow isn't as insane"
He hoped he could befriend this other Hufflepuff boy. He really needed some male friends...

Pierre breathed a sigh of relief and quickly wrote a letter to Terry, hoping she got it before he stripped, and dressed in his silk pajama pants, worn out also.

He didn't reply, just sent off the letter and pulled his curtains, ready to sleep.

However Fate hated him and so Pierre was up all night, restlessly thinking of how he was going to handle his cousin the next morning. Terry was going to castrate him, kill him, stuff him with fireworks then blow him up....

The rest of the night was spent in fear.

-NEW SCENE-

Pierre fell on to his bed, exhausted as he shed his tie and jacket, he propped open his gun book, ready to fall asleep when he did. Classes had been a bore, but eh did talk to Kyra a little after dinner. His mother was taking care of all of the family matters, but Pierre had to do the other stuff on his own.

Glancing up from his book as the door opened, he rolled his eyes before settling back down.

Sydney had finally come back to the dormitory after a tiring day, and he wouldn't deny he was exhausted if asked. Trudging into the room, he noticed the boy -who's name he still didn't know- comfortably reading on his bed. He resisted the urge to stick his tongue out like a five-year-old when the boy rolled his eyes and returned to his book, and instead maneuvered around the boy's bed and any items carelessly strewn on the floor. Merlin, the dorm was in dire need of tidying; it was a mess. He hoisted his book-bag over his shoulder and onto the bed, and began the tiresome task of sifting through it for his homework. He might as well get it over with already.
Loosening his tie whilst climbing over the bed, Sydney started on his homework in order of importance. If he wasn't distracted, he hoped he would be able to finish at least half before supper, but he found it increasingly hard to stay focused while he felt eyes staring at the side of of his head.
He tried to return to Charms, but he just couldn't ignore it any longer.
"What?!"

Pierre raised an eyebrow. He was just wondering if the kid had any manners. Almost one week in the dorm and he had no idea what his name was. "I am Pierre. And you are?" he asked tartly, agitated greatly by the uncivilized boy. It wasn't worth wasting his daily dosage of speech- he used most of it up either way. turning a apge in his book, he was soon entranced by the workings of a bazooka and the Reducto spell.

"I am Pierre. And you are?"

Sydney massaged his temples, and sighed heavily. They'd slept in the same room for so long, and they were just now being introduced to each oher. He made himself feel better about how sad that was by telling himself it wasn't necessarily his fault. He had tried to introduce himself several times, but Pierre had simply ignored him. He wondered at about what age it was okay to start complaining about migraines...
"I'm Sydney. N-Nice to meet you, Pierre"
He had trouble saying the latter of that sentence, because it wasn't entirely true. Sure, he didn't particularly dislike Pierre, but he was just so bloody annoyed at him, and he couldn't for the life of him discover why. However, no matter how annoyed he may be, he refused to be unfriendly outright. It just wasn't his style to do so. "Sorry, I'm just a bit frustrated at all the homework I have to finish."

Wondering why the boy was stuttering- he wasn't that scary, was he?- Pierre shrugged. "It is fine. I still have to do mine..." his eyes wandered over to his Italian leather bag, before shrugging and flipping through his book, already bored with the contents. rubbing his sore eyes, he squinted slightly at the letters.

Sydney saw Pierre get his own books out and attempt to do his homework, and stared back down at his own, tapping his pencil impatiently on his parchment.
He spent two minutes reading the same sentence over and again. Then, he spent another ten minutes counting up every time his quill slapped across the parchment. One, two, three, four...
Finally, after wasting a good half hour of his time, he finally realized just how pointless it was to try doing his homework. He half-glanced at Pierre's bed, and felt vaguely relieved to see he wasn't the only one struggling with it. Pierre was glaring down at his book as if having a serious staring match with it. Sydney wondered idly how the book hadn't already run off from fear with its bookmark tucked in its pages. That glare was a killer one, indeed.
Looking back at his own book, he felt a sudden impulse to fling it across the room.
He slammed the book shut, and poised it above his head to throw it as hard as he could. He really needed to blow off some frustrations, and since Quidditch was out of the equation, this was a perfect opportunity.
He took a deep breath, and aimed at the wall across from his bed. Thrusting the book away almost violently, Sydney heard a most satisfying 'thunk' as it collided with the stone wall.
"That felt good to do."

The letters were beginning to blur, so Pierre slammed the book shut and chucked it at the wall, following his roommate's lead. Settling against his headboard, he decided to go into his standard 'huffy mode' and glared at the ruined book (he was a good Beater when he was playing Quidditch), crossing his arms across his chest.

"Yeah. It did feel rather good." he admitted. "I swear, these teachers expect us to know stuff like that in our first year! How the heck am I supposed to know the theory behind Lumos?" he grumbled.

Sydney grinned at Pierre conspiratorially. "Well, chucking books at a wall is a perfect way to develop some nice biceps. I, after all, would know that to be a fact"
Standing up to inspect the damage, Sydney lifted the book up gingerly by the spine. I was almost falling apart, and the book was new. Either he threw it with too much force, or the wall was too hard. Either way, his book was in shambles, and there wasn't much he could do about it.
"I dunno, but now I know I never will." Holding the book up for Pierre to see he added, "I seem to have ruined my textbook..."
Despite the regretful look on his face, Sydney was not regretting throwing the book at the wall at all. It was a most satisfying experience, and he would gladly do it again if he thought the book could take it. Sadly, he noticed it could not possibly sustain such a blow every again.
"This is gonna be a pain..."

"I doubt I can develop any more muscle." Pierre smirked, standing to retrieve his. It was just a mass of cardboard and paper, and he was definitely gonna have to get a new one.

"I seem to have too..." he thought fro a moment for ripping ii even more and rolling ti into a compact ball. oh yeah, he was THAT strong. "Beat THAT." he smirked, rolling ti over to Puff, who had emerged from under his bed.

Sydney caught the blur of paper with the skill of an adept chaser, and it wasn't until it had landed in his arms that he noticed it was Pierre's textbook rolled into a ball.
He stared down at it mutely, trying to articulate some coherent words. After what seemed like a very long moment to him, Sydney burst into a loud bout of uncontrollable laughter. That boy sure was strong.
"How'd you manage this?" he asked incredulously, holding the condensed book/ball in his hand up to Pierre.
Then, grinning at the sudden idea he had in his mind, he flicked it and sent it it flying back towards Pierre. "I don't have to beat that. I could just beat you with it." He laughed to show he was joking.

Pierre caught it with little difficulty. "With magic." he smirked, chucking it back. He was beginning to like this guy. "And I can beat you into a pulp if I had to." he added, completely serious, no amusement on his face. He wasn't a big fan of joke-violence. Especially after his childhood....

Sydney was shocked into silence at Pierre's statement. He used wandless magic?
He was still shocked enough to let the makeshift ball hit in square in the face with a slight sting.
Ignoring it, he bent to pick it up from where it rebounded, and threw it up in the air and caught it again.
"I'm sure you could, mate...I'm sure you could, but there won't be a need for that,"
Then, tossing it back to him he added, "At least, not tonight, anyway"
He wasn't entirely sure how the two had done it, but the animosity seemed now completely gone. They almost seemed like friends, now.

"Ha, right." Pierre nodded, picking up Puff and tossing him in place of the ball. The furry pet squealed with joy as he soared through the air. "What do you mean by that?" he added, slightly confused.

He was surprised at his own willingness to make friends with Sydney, but waved it away. He was trying to forget about his father, and Sydney helped him forget.

Sydney realized for the first time that is roommate had a pet. It was no wonder their room was always a mess. He scurried to catch the animal before it could get injured, and released it safely onto the floor.
He chose his next words carefully, "Nothing. I was joking. I'm sorry if I didn't quite make that clear enough."
Picking up his own book, Sydney stared down at the ruined text, and leafed through damaged pages. Giving the book a glare he started, "I reckon I should get another book... I'll probably have to head down to the library." His grimace expressed the great distaste he felt at the thought of going to the library- of all places- to get a book. Of all the places in Hogwarts- that he knew of- the Library was a place he had not been excited to know about. He had hoped that he would have been able to spend his seven years in Hogwarts happily oblivious to the Library's whereabouts. Sadly, that wouldn't be the case. He needed another book by tomorrow, and if he didn't find one, he would be in a whole bunch of trouble.
