Silent Studies

Terry hummed the new Johnny Dementor song as she sat down in the library, idly chewing the tip of thumb as she scanned a book on English spell casting when you had a prominent accent. It was easy to follow- practice her 'w's daily and she would be fine. Glancing up as someone joined her at the table, she smiled before going back to the book, wondering how long it would be until she would be loudly (and rudely) disrupted...

To be honest, Kyra had no idea why she was in the library. It would just end badly, she knew for sure. Books and her caused madness to everyone. She had a very sharp memory and could quote things that she had just read.

She adjusted her bag over her shoulder and stepped further on the hard, shiny floor of the library. She scanned the shelf, looking for something she might like. She didn't notice the pieces of parchment someone had knocked on the floor and not picked up. And, of course, she tripped over the parchment, fell to the ground, and heard something break. A long string of obscenities that she thought she would never use rolled from her mouth.

Well, I guess it's time to get new ink, she thought. And a new bag.

She got up and sat by a girl who she thought she had seen before.

Pierre wandered through the rows of books, dressed in a basic button up shirt and trousers for once, looking for books on Dark Lords. He was curious whether or not his father had classified as one. He had a sneaking suspicion that he was. Either way, he was determined to get through the last few weeks as least painfully as possible. choosing a book at random without glancing at the long and complicated title, he sat down by Terry and Kyra, smiling at Terry and nodding stiffly at Kyra, still remembering the night a few days ago at the clock tower.

Terry smiled hesitantly at the Hufflepuff girl who seemed to know Ivy and vice-versa. Looking at Ivan's book, she widened her eyes. He couldn't read that title! He had skimped out on language lessons other than Bulgarian, and he hated learning. He was bright, but not very. "Ivan, vou can't read vat! It's in freaking Latin!" she hissed.

"Oh, and I'm Terry." she added to the girl.

Kyra smiled warmly at Pierre, though all he gave her was a nod.

"Ivan, vou can't read vat! It's in freaking Latin!"

"Who's Ivan?" she asked, confused. She looked at the title of the book. She knew a few words in Latin. Die in Vita Lupinotuum. Oh yeah, she knew this one.

"You're reading about werewolves, Pierre? And nice to meet you Terry, I'm Kyra."

Pierre nodded. "My middle name. Terry likes to call me it."

Turning ti over, he frowned. It didn't say werewolves anywhere on it. "I thought it was about the major figures Dark Lords have killed in history..." he frowned, not recognizing the words. "What exactly does it say?"

OK, just because Terry was his cousin doesn't mean that he was smart.

"Ah, got it," Kyra pointed her index finger up.

"What exactly does it say?" Pierre asked. Kyra had studied Latin for about a year (when she was eight) and then gave up. She still remembered the words she was taught.

"It means A Day in the Life of a Werewolf. Is the whole book in Latin?"

She hoped that she could make a good impression on the two. Though she had met Pierre before, she thought that she hadn't made a very good image for herself.

Pierre peered at the words inside. "Ah, yes it is. Latin really? I only know Bulgarian and still not very well." he shut the book deciding not to hurt his head even more. Quickly retrieving another book, he decided to go get a dictionary. He had no idea what conquers meant.

"He is horrible- I have to translate every summer." Terry said, somewhat dramatic as she turned a page in her book, shaking her head sadly. "By the wah-ay Ivan, do you still wah-ant that tutoring for exams?" Ugh. That 'w' was a mouthful. Shutting her book, she wondered why she would even need to know her 'w's.

"Oh, and it's nice to meet vou, Kyra. Vou're a friend of Ivan's, right?"

Kyra giggled at the mention of Pierre being horrible at something.

"By the wah-ay Ivan, do you still wah-ant that tutoring for exams?" She scrunched her face up as Terry messed up her "w"s.

"I'd like to think I'm a friend of his, but I'm not completely sure," she explained to Terry. "See, there were a couple of incidents that I don't think Pierre would want me to talk about."

Pierre raised an eyebrow as he returned from his second quest to find another book. Setting a somewhat small Potions basics book on the table, he looked at Kyra. "There are some things that need to stay in the past. Those are some of them, and Terry will get it out of me either way." he grunted, sitting down.

"Terry, get a new book. Those 'w's are really annoying, and yes, I do need that tutoring." he answered his cousin's question in quick succession, as he was failing Ancient Runes and Divination. Useless subjects, but if he passed, he wouldn't have to go to his father's funeral.

"I vill get vem out of him over ve summer. Hopefully he'll get a haircut too." Last summer, Pierre's hair was in abuzz cut and hiss mother had allowed him to keep it somewhat long. Terry hated it, thinking it made him seem more......Muggle.

Terry rolled her eyes and got up, muttering in Bulgarian as she began to look for another book, this time hopefully one on dragons. Retuning to the table, she nodded approvingly at her cousin's book. "Lunch then? My study group needs an idiot to teach." she teased slightly, smirking. Her parents said that when they smirked, the smirks were identical.

"I wasn't going to tell her, Pierre. Jeez, I'm not a blabbermouth."

"Terry, get a new book. Those 'w's are really annoying, and yes, I do need that tutoring," Pierre said. Kyra thought that he was getting to be quite rude, again.

"Why are you criticizing her? She's trying her best," she said calmly. She just hoped that Terry would give him the tutoring he needed so he could stop.

"Sorry. You know how I can be." Pierre shrugged, turning back to his book. His head was hurting (and no, not from the book) and he was getting annoyed by the difficulty of trying to convince Kyra that he had a good side.

""I'm not criticizing 'liz. Those were getting annoying. And I know, she's trying her best, but-" here, he was interrupted by Terry, who was leveling a mild glare at Kyra.

Terry interrupted her cousin. "It vas hurting my vocal chords, a little. If Ivan hadn't stopped em, ven I vould've been mute for a few days. It has happened before." she explained, opening her Transfiguration book. And it was the same thing with the glares. Her and Ivy's were identical, even though he had more power behind it usually.

Kyra reddened a little bit as Terry explained to her. "Sorry," she mumbled. "So, you're looking at Transfiguration? I'd help you, but, frankly, I suck at it."

"It's okay. No one understand Ivan very vell." Terry said brightly. "So, Hufflepuff? Vhat's that like?"

"Oh, I only have trouble vith the incantations. Theory is okay." she explained. "I can help vou vith theory, if vou vant."

"Hufflepuff is great," Kyra said with a giant smile plastered on her face. "I've met lots of people!" ...Which was a lie. She'd basically stuck to the friends she knew she had, not trying to make anymore.

"Oh, I only have trouble vith the incantations. Theory is okay. I can help vou vith theory, if vou vant."

"Oh, really? Incantations I'm okay with. If you help me with my theory and the like, I can help you, I guess."

She hoped that she could get along with this girl. She seemed very nice.
